Dr. Michael E. McCormickDirector/Chief technical Officer
Dr. McCormick received his undergraduate degree in mathematics and physics from American University, an M. S. in engineering mechanics and a Ph. D. from Catholic University in mechanical engineering. He the received his 2nd h. D. in civil engineering and a Sc. D. from Trinity College, Dublin, Ireland. Dr. McCormick’s experience included 5 years as a hydrodynamicist at the David Taylor Model Basin and full-time faculty positions at Trinity College, Hartford, U. S. Naval Academy (where he is Emeritus Professor of Ocean Engineering) and Johns Hopkins University (where he is Visiting Research Professor of Civil Engineering). Recently, he has held part-time positions with ACS Defense and Lockheed-Martin IT as an environmental computational fluid dynamicist. He is a Fellow of three professional societies: ASCE, ASME and MTS. He has over 100 publications including two books on ocean wave mechanics. His experience in wave energy conversion dates back to 1973, when he was the U. S. Coast Guard Research Professor at the Naval Academy studying oscillating water-column wave-energy conversion. He conceptually designed the bi-directional turbine contributed by the U. S. on the Kaimei project in Japan. His association with wave-powered desalination began in 1981 with his work on the McCabe Wave Pump in Ireland. That association continues. |
